My 3rd grader (well, now I guess she’s officially a 4th grader) was supposed to go to Crocodile Encounter this year for her school field trip. As we all know with school being cancelled, her field trip was also cancelled and she was so disappointed. Her granddad promised her he would take her to make it up to her, so last week, he got the tickets and off we went.

They are currently limiting the number of people due to Covid-19 and social distancing, so they are requiring tickets be purchased in advance. We had tickets for a 10:00 tour, which started on time and was a group of 12 of us, including our tour guide. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about all of the animals and the girls learned and retained a lot of the information he was giving. When we got home, they were able to tell their dad all of the facts they learned about the animals! We all enjoyed watching him feed the alligators, getting to feed the alligators ourselves, and of course, feeding their large tortoises carrots. If you haven’t been in awhile, they are no longer allowing you to bring your own produce to feed the animals- you have to purchase it from them. It was $5 for a bag of carrots- which is way more than grocery store prices, but so worth it to get to feed the pigs, goats, and tortoises.

The crocodiles were out in force too- and there were a few close calls when our tour guide was in the cage feeding them. We were all holding our breath as the crocs kept getting close to him wanting to be fed their chicken. They move fast and they are sneaky! At the end of the tour we got to pet a snake and a baby alligator- and we got to hold the baby alligator too.

We all had a great time and made lots of memories. Our tour was only supposed to be an hour, but we were there for almost 2 hours. It was very hot that morning, and there are shady areas on the tour, but you’re also out in the sun a lot, so I would recommend wearing a hat and sunscreen. I love that we have such a great places less than 30 minutes from us- it is definitely worth a visit.
